About Me

Early one summer morning on August 7, 1969, I (Charleen Patricia Walkes) made a grand entrance into the world at 12:59 AM.  I know my parents were ecstatic at the birth of their first born, but I cried leaving the warmth of my mother's womb where I was being catered to, and provided for.  However, my birth into the planet earth denied me of my privileges.  Like all human beings who like myself became a statistic on the planet earth, I had to adjust to life outside of my former comfort zone, crying, breathing, craving attention, learning to use my muscles, feed from my mother's breast, gradually advancing to drink from a bottle, eventually, learning to use a spoon, fork and knife for survival.

I was born at "Unity Hospital", 1545 St. John's Place, Brooklyn, New York, 11203.  The first of two children to the proud parents of Mr.Adin and Mrs.Ernestine Walkes, who offered tender loving care from birth, to present.  My parents lived in Crown Heights, from 10-05-1968, through 11-14-1971.  Subsequently, we moved to East Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York.

I was raised by my parents and Grandmother Florence Clementine Waterman (my mother's mum), who assisted with nurturing me while my parents worked full time. My Grand mama relocated from Barbados, West Indies. She lived with my parents, rearing me and my brother Charles until 1981, at which point she returned to Barbados to her ailing brothers. Unfortunately, she went home to Glory on January 9th, 2006, at age 96. It was and still is a devastating loss to the entire family. Florence (Grand mama) was the last of eight children. Today the surviving brother, Great uncle Thomas, is 103 years old. What a coincidence, both of my parents are also the babies of their families.

In conclusion I’m happy to report I am proud of my accomplishments, most of all to share the love of my friends and family. To know me is to love me. Love is greatest gift anyone could ask for.
